ADRIANO RAMOS PINTO
PORTUGAL, Douro

www.ramospinto.pt

A personal touch and autonomy are two of the key factors, which gives Ramos Pinto that unique and distinct characteristics. The Casa Ramos Pinto Port wines are prepared in the modern vinification centres at the Quinta dos Bons Ares and the Quinta do Bom Retiro, but in the case of special category wines (LBV, Vintage, and wines indicating their age), the grapes are trodden in the traditional wine cellars as this age-old technique allows for the juice of the fruit to be extracted more efficiently and less violently.

Ruby Portos Family
Late Bottled Vintage

LBV comes from one single year and one single harvest. This wine is bottled in the fourth year. Smoother than the Vintage, more developed, easier to drink in a hot country, it is a powerful, defiant, full-bodied and harmonious wine. It is a wine familiar with the flavours of chocolate and cheese. After the bottle is opened it remains at its best for a further 15 to 30 days. It is a wine that is not filtered and can therefore either be drunk immediately or be left in a cellar, developing further complexity.
Current Vintage: 2001 / 2003

Vintage

Opaque, thick, intensely red, vigorous, jovial, sanguine, the lifeblood of the Douro! After two years of refinement in wood, it is then bottled for a long life - 50 to 100 years. After it is taken out of the wine-cellar, it should be placed upright for a few hours to allow for the sediments to settle at the bottom. Two to four hours before being served it should be decanted to separate out the deposits and to allow the wine to breathe so that it can be served in all its splendour.

Current Vintage: 2003 (James Suckling, WS 94pts)
Wonderful aromas of crushed blackberries and currants. Full-bodied, with round, ripe tannins and fabulously rich fruit. Medium sweet and gripping. Ramos-Pinto's best ever. Best after 2014.

Tawny Portos Family
Tawny

Although aged the same as Ruby (3 years), it has a more developed aroma: and taste. This is due to greater oxygenation (through ageing in wooden barrels as opposed to wine vats), which makes it a lighter, warmer and more feminine wine. Its original red colour gives way to amber tones, its flavour is enriched by a combination of nuts, dried fruits and the aromas of red fruits - cherries, plums, blackberries and raspberries - and a semi-oxidizing harmonious bouquet is formed.

Tawny Reserva Adriano

This is the wine of the founder of Casa Ramos Pinto. The wine which conquered Brazil to such an extent that Port Wine became known simply as Adriano. It is a blend of 6 to 7 year old wines, aged in wood. Its colour is brick-red in the meniscus with a few shades of red in the centre of the glass. An option lying between youth and old age. In it you can enjoy the flavours of fresh grapes as well as of dried fruits, acquired through the ageing process in oak casks.

Tawny 10 years Quinta do Ervamoira

After Tawny Reserva comes the 10 Years, a blend with an average age of 10 years. Its brick-red, even golden shades transport us to the Orient of spices, piquant and exotic aromas, with all its mysteries. Its body and its richness of flavour transport us to the place where it was created - Quinta de Ervamoira.

This delightful Port has a rich deep tawny color with fading red pigments. It is aromatic and spicy with ripe fruits, figs and hints of rancio. It finish with rich, deep flavors and great balance.

Tawny 20 years Quinta do Bom Retiro

It is a blend with an average age of 20 years, made from a selection of several lots originating in one of the oldest vineyards in the Douro region - Quinta do Bom Retiro. The ageing and maturing experience in the wood change its colour. The red shades give place to brick and yellow colours, to the tones of a sunset. It is a fine wine to drink at the end of the meal, to accompany desserts like orange puddings, nuts, dried fruits, crème caramel and dried fruit ice-creams. It is a classic Tawny.

(James Suckling, WS 93pts)
Fabulously complex with wonderful truffle, honey, cedar and tobacco box character. Medium to full in body, very sweet and a silky, opulent finish. Stunning. This Port shows plenty of caramel, egg yolk and slightly salty character. Full-bodied, with a big impact on the palate of toffee, candied fruits and honey. Very long finish. Excellent. Ramos-Pinto is a master of old tawnies.
