~ Domaine Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) Portfolio ~

Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) took over the Los Vascos estate in 1988. The estate enjoys an excellent location near the ocean and with exceptional soil composition. Along with ideal weather conditions, Los Vascos benefits from intense exposure to the sun, adequate water sources, semi-arid soils and little risk of frost. Vina Los Vascos has everything to produce fine wines. Today, the wines have shown increasing concentration and finesse with reknown international recognition.

The vineyards now owned 95% of Cabernet Sauvignon & 5% Chardonnay, with a mixture of 40-50 years old vines and some as old as 60 years old. White wines are cool fermented at low temperature to preserve youthful qualities and aromas. Hand harvested Cabernet Sauvignon goes into the Grande Reserve & Le Dix, and aged in French barrels, made in DBR (Lafite)'s cooperage in Pauillac.

Colchagua is now the leading Chilean's wine region and Los Vascos is one of wineries that plays a very important part in it.

Cabernet Sauvignon 2007 (RV)

Brilliant red ruby colour. Pleasant mature fruit such as red cherries, raspberries and plums. Notes of sarsaparilla and gooseberry jam, glazed dry fruit, red fruit in syrup and white chocolate. Spices of black pepper, nutmeg, bay leaves, mint and cloves. Sweet, round, vigorous and elegant tannins. Good acidity, with character.

Chardonnay 2008 (RV)

This vintage has a brilliant and clear colour with golden reflections. It has an explosive nose of melon, grapefruit and exotic fruit coupled with the typical Chardonnay note of hazelnut. In the mouth, it is rich, fresh and pleasantly fruity with good structure and a long finish.

Grande Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2006 (RV)

The colour is intense ruby with fine brilliance and orange nuances. The nose explodes with fruit : black cherry and blackcurrant (Cabernet), strawberry (Malbec), raspberry (Syrah), plum light mint and black pepper (Carmenère). The oak doesn't overpower the fruit contributes delicious aromas of tobacco, cinnamon, and crème brûlée (vanilla, caramel and chocolate). The rich hand creamy taste is fresh and very intense, well structured and finishes with a fruit intensity of raspberries and cherries accompanied by a touch of liquorice and walnut skin.

Le Dix 2004 (RV)

Le Dix 2004 has a deep garnet color, almost black. The powerful nose develops aromas of ripe black fruit and wild cherries complemented by those of wax, cedar, laurel and licorice. The oak is pleasantly integrated with the fruit. This adds to the wine pleasant aromas of vanilla, grilled hazelnut, tobacco and cinnamon. The concentration is impressive but the wine remains very well balanced and elegant, fresh and long, with strong but well coated tannins.
