LOUIS ROEDERER
FRANCE, Champagne

www.champagne-roederer.com

In 1833, Louis Roederer inherited the Champagne Company founded in 1776 by his uncle. Louis Roederer remains a family-owned independent company headed by an expert oenologist - a doubly rare situation in Champagne. These characteristics enable the company to concentrate on top quality, rather than maximum profitability. It produces wines from its own vineyards, of a quality and style that places them among the most sought after wines in the world.

The Roederer style is built on precision, patience and attention to detail, reflecting the spirit of perfectionism that is the mark of the House. That perfectionism is apparent in every cuvee, every nuance and subtle variation that conspires to give each champagne its pleasurable taste: the outstanding smoothness of the bubbles; a taste that balances fruitiness and freshness; a smooth and subtle structure, marked by a delicate vinosity that finishes on a sensation of fullness.

Carte Blanche Demi-Sec

To suggest that the Carte Blanche is merely the Brut Premier with extra sugar added at the dosage stage would be an affront to the philosophy of this, possibly the greatest of all Champagne Houses. Nonetheless, the wine is not dissimilar in the sense that it is made from 50% Pinot Noir, 30% Chardonnay and 20% Pinot Meunier, with the addition of up to 20% wood aged reserve wine.

Louis Roederer Brut Premier

Brut Premier is the embodiment of Louis Roederer style, combining all the fruitiness of youth with the vinosity of a fully mature wine. This is a structured and elegantly mature wine, with a lively attack and a smooth palate. Pale golden colour. Delicate, persistent beading. Rich yet subtle bouquet with hints of hawthorn, almonds and toast. Clean attack, creamy structure. The inclusion for serving wines gives the complexity and roundness characteristic of Louis Roederer champagnes. This is an excellent as an aperitif but also readily accompanies light entrees based on fish or shellfish.

Louis Roederer Brut Rose Vintage 2003

The estate’s 2003 Brut Rose is a very delicate rose, in fact it is one of the more understated roses I tasted. The color is a light tone of salmon. Layers of sweet perfumed fruit flow onto the palate effortlessly as this sexy, feminine wine opens up in the glass. This is a fairly accessible style of rose, but it has the signature Roederer finesse in spades. The 2003 Brut Rose is 70% Pinot Noir from Cumieres and 30% Chardonnay from Mesnil, Avize and Oger.

Louis Roederer Brut Vintage 2003

The Brut Vintage 2003 features a consistent stream of delicate bubbles and yellow tones shimmering with the light amber highlights that are typical of the Pinot Noir. It is very intense and explosive on the nose - deliciously developed even at this early stage. A blend of nutty, spicy, ripe fruit aromas, layered with notes of biscuits and a suggestion of chocolate and roasted coffee beans.

Louis Roederer Cristal Brut Vintage 2002

Nose with notes of apple blossom, fresh strawberries, clotted cream, cashews and lightly toasted hazelnuts plus a barely detectable hint of oak. Great concentration of apple crumble flavours with very fine bubbles and a crisp backbone of acid. Long creamy finish.

Louis Roederer Cristal Rose Vintage 2000

The 2000 Cristal Rose emerges from the glass in a stunning display of well-articulated aromas and flavors. Everything in is perfect balance as this perfumed wine opens up in the glass. The finish is long, sweet and incredibly refined. In 2000 the Brut Cristal Rose is 70% Pinot Noir from Ay and 30% Chardonnay from Mesnil, Avize and Oger.
