Best Wine in the World + Best Winery - Grand Vin Pte Ltd

Best Wine in the World + Best Winery

Just last month, Castillo Ygay was yet again crowned “Best Wine in the World” by Wine Spectator magazine, gaining the plaudits of top international wine critics with its soon to be released 2012 vintage. It was only in 2020 when Castillo Ygay was awarded the same accolade. Renowned American critic, James Suckling, was the first to rave about this jewel of a wine, awarding it 100 points (the maximum score), after tasting over 4,000 references.

Castillo Ygay has once again entered the history books, cementing its place in the upper echelons of the world’s great wines and as the foremost exponent of top quality wine in Spain. Throughout its history, this iconic label of Marqués de Murrieta has won the hearts of wine commentators in each of the vintages released. Castillo Ygay is one of the most highly-acclaimed wines in the world and on 15 occasions, it has been given the coveted 100-point score by the industry’s opinion leaders (James Suckling, Robert Parker, Decanter and Falstaff). Its 1986 white became the first Spanish white wine to be awarded the perfect score by Robert Parker.

Additionally, just last year, Marqués de Murrieta has received the “Best Of 2023” International Award, which places it as the best winery in the world with the prestigious awards granted by the Great Wine Capitals Global Network. The jury highlighted that there was “the perfect balance between history and modernity felt in the idyllic space made up of the Marqués de Murrieta buildings”, as well as “the excellence achieved in its wines, its international presence and its image”.
With resounding awards like "Best Winery" and "Best Wine" in recent years, it will surely be a mistake not to pick up some lovely Viura whites or a crate of delish Rioja reds from this house this festive. After all, the best wines are meant to be shared with your best friends and close family before the year-end travelling starts.
