Domaine Robert Sirugue: The End of A Legacy; The Beginning of Another
Share
The origins of Domaine Robert Sirugue trace back to Jean-Francois Jayer, the paternal uncle of the renowned Henri Jayer, often referred to as the "King" of Burgundy. Jean-Francois Jayer and his wife had two children, including a daughter named Jeanne, who married Joseph Sirugue, thereby introducing the Sirugue surname into the Jayer family lineage.
In 2000, Robert Sirugue passed on his domaine to his children, Marie-France and Jean-Louis Sirugue, marking the fourth generation of winemakers in the family. Over the years, the vineyards have expanded to nearly 12 hectares of sustainably grown vines, primarily located in the esteemed Vosne-Romanée commune. The domaine produces a diverse range of wines across various appellations, including Bourgogne, Vosne-Romanée and Chambolle-Musigny Villages, Vosne-Romanée Premier Cru, and Grands Echézeaux.
Domaine Robert Sirugue has garnered increasing attention in recent years since being featured in the popular Japanese wine-themed comic, "Drops of God", earning high praises for their wines as portrayed in the comic, as well as from Winehog's Steen Öhman.
However, 2022 will mark the last vintage under the Sirugue name, as the domaine is handed into the trusted hands of the next generation. Starting with the 2023 vintage, the wines from the Sirugue estate will be marketed under the new label, Arnaud et Sophie, signifying a new chapter in their winemaking journey.
