Winemaker notes

A year marked by capricious weather and seasons. Though we were spared freeze damage, we had to be extremely vigilant throughout the season. Our efforts were rewarded and we are able to propose a superb vintage in terms of both quality and quantity. Our 2021 Tavel boasts a robe of intense colour, the Aqueria signature. Fruity nose of raspberry and black currant with notes of spices that develop on the palate. The outstanding balance in this vintage combining power and elegance enhances the aromas that persist throughout a lingering fresh and subtle finish. A great Rosé de Terroir.

2021

Decanter 93: Quite a serious, savoury nose, showing black cherry and garrigue herbs. Full-bodied, with real depth and power. Acidity and alcohol are well balanced and it has a slightly chalky texture. An authentic Tavel, made in a traditional rather than natural style. Estate now owned by Guigal.

Wine Enthusiast 93: Opulent and juicy, this full-bodied Tavel highlights the fleshy red plum and cherry flavors of Grenache against the peppery, herbal spice of Syrah and a flash of citrusy Clairette. Deep, dusky pink in color, it's a concentrated, thirst-quenching rosé that will drink well into the autumn and winter months.

2022

Wine Advocate 90: Almost half Grenache, with the rest mostly Cinsault, Clairette, Mourvèdre and Syrah, the 2022 Tavel even includes small proportions of Bourboulenc and Picpoul. If you can hold off opening a bottle until this summer, or even into the fall, that would be a good idea, or else decant in advance of serving. Right now, there's a touch of austerity to the wine, with scents of wet stone reducing the impact of red berries and citrus on the nose, and the full-bodied palate seems just a bit pinched and tight but with the potential to blossom in a few months.

Wine Enthusiast 93: Enjoy a beautiful dance on the palate between summer fruits and savory flavors with this Tavel. Wild strawberries, fresh watermelon and freshly picked cherries beautifully intertwine with pink peppercorn, wild herbs and pulverized stone. Enjoy now with grilled vegetables or chicken kabobs.
