Fine gourmet artistry. They are true rarities, and are considered the crowning achievement of German viniculture. Nobly sweet Rieslings require special climatic conditions, as well as tremendous patience in the harvest and selection of the grapes. In return, they offer unfathomable ageing potential. Beerenauslesen, Trockenbeerenauslesen and Eiswein are the classics of German wine culture, and are considered among the finest treasures the Diel estate has to offer.
Winemaker notes
Subtle spicy yeast scent paired with tropical fruits such as pineapple, mango and passion fruit. Complex fruit sweetness, balanced by a perfect acidity, great aftertaste.
2017
James Suckling 96: The strength of this wine lies in the finesse and delicacy that creep up on you from behind. Super-fine nectarine and mandarin-orange notes. Moderate sweetness for the category makes this a great paté de foie gras wine. Very long, silky finish. Drink or hold.
Vinous 92: "There wasn't much botrytis this year," relates Diel, so this bottling mostly represents healthy but super-ripe and concentrated berries. Nectarine and white peach deliver an enticing nose and luscious, brightly juicy abundance on a glossy, delicate palate. A touch of salinity serves for saliva-inducement in the long-lasting and only moderately sweet finish. Greater complexity is almost certain to emerge with time.
2019
Wine Advocate 94: The yellow-golden 2019 Goldloch Riesling Auslese offers a deep and complex, very intense and aromatic as well as flinty bouquet of fully ripe but healthy fruits intermingled with notes of crushed stones. Round, lush and savory on the palate, this is a rich and generous but delicate and filigree Auslese with a very stimulating and elegant finish that is crystalline and reveals fine grip. This should be great to have with food in five or ten years. 7.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in August 2022.
James Suckling 95: A graceful Auslese with more than enough depth, but the succulent, exotic-fruit aromas are far removed from full-throttle botrytis madness. The creaminess and sweetness are precisely judged. Long, clean finish.
