2020
WA 91-93: Guigal sources its Gigondas from 15 suppliers, some of whom the house has worked with since before the appellation became a cru in 1971. The 2020 Gigondas continues this line, boasting gently floral aromas and plenty of raspberry fruit. It's full-bodied, lush and already easy to drink, but it seems to have plenty of stuffing to get it through at least a decade.
JS 92: Here's an excellent introduction to Gigondas with the richness and spice, plus the ample tannins we expect from this appellation. Long, well-structured finish with excellent balance. A cuvee of 70% grenache, 20% syrah and 10% mourvedre that was aged completely in large oak foudre. Drink or hold.
2019
WA 91-93: Marked by scents of Provence herbs, cherries and blueberries, the 2019 Gigondas is another successful example of this Southern Rhône appellation. Full-bodied and concentrated, it's rich and velvety in feel, with a long finish.
JS 91: Aromas of black licorice, charred rosemary, coriander and plums. Full-bodied with silky tannins. Generous fruit on the palate with steady balance and intensity. Drink or hold.
