Winemaker notes

A brilliant light yellow colour. The very pleasant expressive and complex nose opens up with floral and slightly woody notes. The attack is bold and frank, then this wine is full and harmonious on the palate. It has a certain vivaciousness, which gives it good length on the palate and very long-lasting aromas.

2020

Wine Advocate 90-92: Aromas of pear, freshly baked bread, citrus oil and baking spices introduce the 2020 Meursault 1er Cru Blagny (Maison), a medium to full-bodied, ample and satiny wine that's bright and chalky, concluding with a saline finish. It's a fine effort that should match the 2017 rendition.

James Suckling 94: Wonderful, nutty nose with delicate toasty, pear and candied-citrus notes. Plenty of substance and concentration, the mineral freshness lifting up the ample body and giving it tons of energy. Almost perfectly judged oak and balance that's neither opulent nor austere enable this excellent Meursault to successfully walk the line. Drink or hold.

2021

Wine Advocate 90-92: The 2021 Meursault 1er Cru Blagny (Maison) is chiseled and electric, offering up aromas of green apple, lime zest, white flowers and struck match, followed by a medium-bodied, taut and tangy palate that will delight acid lovers.

Vinous 90-92: The 2021 Meursault-Blagny 1er Cru was quite primal and slightly reduced when I tasted it at Faiveley. The palate is well balanced with a crisp line of acidity, quite malic with pear and peach skin, fine extract on the finish bestowing this with a very agreeable mouthfeel. Promising.

Decanter 92: A Meursault premier cru from Blagny stood out at a recent tasting of the 2021 vintage at Faiveley. Its lemon peel and tangy, saline mineral aromas were inviting and given complexity by a hint of smoky reduction. The appellation, at the top of the slope in Meursault, is an interesting one. The texture on the palate was racy with fresh, crisp acidity, but there was no lack of body. Faiveley has purchased the grapes for this – they are not specialists in whites from the Côte de Beaune – but let’s hope they continue since the wine is pleasant indeed.
