FORTUNATE SON is the culmination of more than two decades searching for small jewel vineyards and the fruit from them, handcrafted in the same, meticulous way as Hundred Acre. The 2018 vintage of Fortunate Son was made at Hundred Acre’s underground winery: The RING. In the future, Fortunate Son will be crfted at its new winery: The Fortunate Son Winery at the Historic David Fulton Vineyard Established in 1860.

2018

Wine Advocate 95: Coming from a vineyard close to Hundred Acre's Few and Far Between vineyard and planted to 85- to 90-year-old vines, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon The Dreamer is made from around 92% Cabernet Sauvignon with a small proportion of unknown red varieties interplanted. Deep garnet-purple in color, it bursts with flamboyant notes of redcurrant preserves, cassis, dark chocolate, violets and red roses, plus fragrant hints of Indian spices and camphor, with a suggestion of iron ore. The medium to full-bodied palate is fabulously velvety, delivering beautiful freshness and loads of spicy layers, finishing very long.

2019

Wine Advocate 95: A blend of two undisclosed vineyards, Fortunate Son's 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon The Dreamer is darker, richer and warmer than the 2018 version, yet still balanced, delivering ripe black cherries, loamy earth and dried spices. It's medium to full-bodied, softly dusty and long on the finish.

Lisa Perrotti-Brown 96: Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2019 The Dreamer comes barreling out with powerful notes of stewed black plums, warm cassis, and Morello cherries giving way to nuances of menthol, Chinese five spice, and red loam. The full-bodied palate is charged with energetic black berry layers, framed by exquisitely ripe tannins, finishing very long with loads of mineral sparks.

James Suckling 96: Blackcurrant, lavender, and hints of milk chocolate. Medium to full body and layered. Savory and beautiful. Drink or hold.

Decanter 97: A shimmering, lucid, ruby colour. Seductive aromas of ripe blackberry fruit, graphite, and suave tannins. Fresh, fragrant, polished and full of savoury spices atop plush fruit, leading to a medium to full-bodied finish that builds in stature through a wealth of herbs and spices.
