Appreciated and recognized since the 18th Century, enchanting by its aromatic sincerity
and the grain of its texture, La Lagune has always benefied from a « côte d’amour ». This gravelly hillside gives the Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot a unique balance of power and elegance. The vitality of the fruit endows the wine with an aristocratic finesse, infusing its velvety texture and profound character, reflecting the estate’s rich ecosystem.
Lovers of La Lagune will find, with each passing vintage, the same personality that has always made the estate’s wines so famous.
2008
Wine Advocate 93: One of the most beautiful wines of the vintage, the dark ruby/purple-colored La Lagune exhibits sweet cassis, camphor, truffle and white chocolate notes presented in a dense, medium to full-bodied, silky textured personality. Filled with purity, finesse, elegance and authoritative flavor intensity, this 2008 is already drinkable and should continue to evolve for 15+ years.
James Suckling 92: This fruity and spicy with raspberry and pepper character. Full body, firm tannins and a fresh finish. Bright acidity. Just starting to be ready to drink. Drink or hold.
Vinous 91: The 2008 La Lagune has a forward and quite intense bouquet with blackberry, tobacco, cooked meat with hints of white pepper and then later, pressed rose petals. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, well knit with neatly integrated and judicious oak. There is a gentle but firm grip on the palate: hints of allspice and sea salt. There is a discernable a chalky texture with respect to the tannins towards the finish, suggesting that this will benefit from another couple of years in bottle. Good potential. Tasted at the La Lagune vertical at the château.
2021
Wine Advocate 91: The 2021 La Lagune has turned out nicely in bottle, unwinding in the glass with aromas of dark berries, cherries, spices and truffles, followed by a medium to full-bodied, velvety and seamless palate with good depth of fruit, lively acids and sweet tannins.
Vinous 92: The 2021 La Lagune is a bold, expressive wine. Macerated dark cherry, tobacco, gravel, incense, cured meats, licorice and worn-in leather give the 2021 notable complexity. A wine of gravitas and brooding depth, this La Lagune is impeccably done. Very fine.
Decanter 92: Perfumed and nicely scented on the nose, fresh rose petals and raspberries. Clean and precise, a lovely clarity to the expression - crystalline with a softly mouthwatering strawberry juicy core - half tangy, half really quite mineral which, when added to the salty tannins, gives quite a chalky, almost dry wet stone ending. It's easy to drink, just missing a touch more spark and vibrancy, but good structure.
