The result of a specific selection when the blends are decided, Petit-Figeac is made with all the skill of the Chateau Figeac team. Lighter and less full-bodied than its senior, with beautiful length on the palate, a highly refined texture and a great capacity to seduce, it shows its appeal earlier. Petit-Figeac offers an ideal introduction to the spirit of the estate.
2020
Wine Advocate 91: A blend of 71% Merlot and 19% Cabernet Franc, the 2020 Petit-Figeac offers up aromas of dark berries, black truffle, loamy soil and cigar wrapper. Medium to full-bodied, layered and sapid, it's deep and elegant, with refined tannins and a penetrating finish. Some 40,000 bottles were produced, with anything that didn't make the cut sold off in bulk.
James Suckling 94: So perfumed with cherry, hazelnut and chocolate aromas that follow through to a medium body, with very fine tannins and a fresh and vibrant finish. Crisp and crunchy. Second wine of Figeac. Orange peel and graphite at the end. A blend of 71% merlot, 19% cabernet franc and 10% cabernet sauvignon. Drink or hold.
Decanter 94: Gorgeous aromatic complexity on the nose, floral and bramble fruits. Juicy and so appealing on the palate, the tannins are chalky and fruity at the same time with a beautiful density and liveliness. Lovely precision on the mid-palate, fruit forward, open, expressive and vibrant with so much freshness shining out of the glass. A joyful expression with mouthwateringly pure strawberry, redcurrant, raspberry and red cherry given structure and frame by touches of oak. I love the lick of slate on the finish with the minerality putting this squarely in St-Emilion. A lovely introduction to Figeac with its own personality. You can drink this now, but has potential to age. Keep a bottle to open when anyone comes over, this will impress!
2021
Wine Advocate 90: The 2021 Petit-Figeac is an immensely pretty, pure, charming wine, bursting with aromas of raspberry coulis, violets, blood orange and rose petals, followed by a medium-bodied, supple and suave palate that's bright and precise, with a succulent core of fruit and melting tannins. It will be hard to resist on release.
James Suckling 92: Berries and cedar with some chocolate and hazelnuts come through clearly on the nose and palate. It's medium-bodied with fine tannins and a savory finish. Lightly chewy and polished at the end. Merlot, cabernet sauvignon and cabernet franc. Drink after 2027.
Vinous 91: The 2021 Petit-Figeac is gorgeous. Soft, pliant and beautifully understated, the 2021 is a fine choice for drinking now and over the next decade. Sweet red cherry, red plum, flowers and blood orange all take shape nicely. This is a fine second wine
