Robert Weil Riesling Spatlese
Robert Weil Riesling Spatlese
Winemaker notes
Timeless, elegant Rheingau Spätlese with lush fruit notes, gracefully balancing its natural sweetness with a bright, high-spirited acidity. Well-chilled, this wine is drinking wonderfully in its youth, and will continue to mature over the next 30+ years.
2019
Wine Advocate 90+: The 2019 Rheingau Riesling Spätlese is bright, fresh and piquant on the super clear and spicy nose, which is still shy due to heavy reduction. Mouthfillingly juicy yet refined and elegant on the palate, this is a filigreed and sustainably mineral Rheingau Spätlese. It is straight and linear, built on this lovely interplay of hidden sweetness and typical Rheingau freshness and crystallinity. Excellent and in the old feinherb Spätlese style rather than really sweet. Definitely a wine to quaff (preferably in 10 years). Tasted from AP 20 20 in April 2020.
2021
Wine Advocate 89: The 2021 Rheingau Riesling Spätlese opens with a very clear, fresh and lime-scented bouquet. Fresh and piquant on the palate, this is a mouth-filling, round, light and digestible Riesling with juicy fruit and grippy, palate-cleansing acidity. Not complex but stimulating and digestible. 9% stated alcohol. Screw cap. Tasted in July 2022.
James Suckling 93: I don’t want to put any ideas into your minds, but this is dangerously delicious. Brimming with white fruit aromas, extremely crisp, lively and refreshing, it’s hard to see why anybody would reject this joyful wine. Sleek body and a surprisingly dry personality for the category, with a long mint and wet stone finish. Drink or hold. Screw cap.
