Collection: Moulin-à-Vent: 100 Years of Excellence

On April 17, 1924, the Appellation d'Origine (AO) Moulin-à-Vent was established by vignerons from Romanèche and Thorins to combat prevalent fraud. This AO, one of the first in France, naturally bore the name of our emblematic windmill, built in 1550. Previously, wines from this region were labelled 'Romanèche' or 'Thorins', reflecting the diverse granite, sandy, and silica-rich soils on either side of the windmill ridge. By 1872, just as nearby villages named their wines after prominent locales (like Musigny and Chambertin), Thorins was renamed Romanèche-Thorins.
In 1924, the wine from 'Moulin-à-Vent' was valued higher than Grand Cru Burgundy, prompting the AO's creation to protect their integrity. This year, Moulin-à-Vent is preparing to file for Premiers Crus classification, marking a century of excellence.
