Medium-bodied with spicy fruit and mineral flavours, this wine shows a dark but strong quality of fruit that speaks more to the power of this nuanced side of Nebbiolo, slowly coming together to reveal broad layers of dark cherry, cassis and plum. Well-structured with its bright acidity and firm tannins.
James Suckling 93: Pleasant dried red berries, pressed flowers and some brazil nut on the nose. Medium-bodied with spicy fruit flavors. The tannins are more in the back seat this year and this gives the mid-palate quite an open-knit mouth-feel. Finishes a little tighter with good fruit and spice.
Wine Spectator 93: A ripe style, this reveals macerated plum, cherry, spice, hay, tobacco and mineral flavors. This has an elegant feel, despite the dense, refined tannins, with a lasting mouthwatering impression.
James Suckling 94: I like the perfumed aromas here with lots of fresh roses to the cherry and strawberry character. Medium-bodied with tight and fine tannins that spread across the palate and deliver brightness and focus. Citrusy aftertaste. Give this four to five years of bottle age. Try after 2027.
Vinous 92: The 2019 Barolo Bussia is redolent of crushed red berry fruit, cedar, mint, spice, sweet pipe tobacco and orange peel. Firm and sinewy, with veins of insistent supporting tannin, the 2019 is a terrific example of the vintage and this bottling. Impressive. And gorgeous. Give it a few years to soften.
