The name "Mont de Milieu" makes reference to the defining characteristic of this hillside which previously marked a boundary between two points. On one side was the Chablis constituency (an area across which a Lord or town had the right to jurisdiction), at the time in the Champagne constituency, and on the other side was the Fleys constituency which fell under the Duchy of Burgundy.

Winemaker notes

Clear, bright hue with light green tinges. This 1er Cru reveals a remarkably rich aromatic profile with ripe citrus fruits and white flowers. The palate is rich and round with exceptional length.

2020

Burghound 91-93: There is a suggestion of the exotic to the aromas of white peach, passion fruit, quinine and citrus confit scents. The super-sleek and gorgeously textured medium-bodied flavors brim with dry extract on the round and caressing but quite punchy, clean and refreshingly dry finale. This too is going to require at least some restraint.

2021

Burghound 92: There is only a vague hint of the hallmark Mont de Milieu exoticism on the aromas of white peach, ocean spray, lychee and shellfish--infused nose. There is both excellent volume and a seductive texture to the medium-bodied flavors that possess good power while exhibiting very fine length on the saline and attractively dry finale. Some patience should help to add depth.

2022

Burghound 90-93: Here the wood is no longer subtle though neither does it dominate the mildly exotic aromas of white and yellow peach, orange peel and moderate Chablis elements. On the palate the larger-bodied and concentrated flavors are also generously proportioned while concluding in a balanced, dry and powerful finish. This could use more depth so a few years of keeping should prove beneficial.

Decanter 93: There is an excellent balance between rich, honeyed notes and very crisp, clean acidity. Stony edge to the finish. This is approachable now but really needs several years. From four parcels, part of the blend is matured in barrel, the rest in tank.
