Wine Advocate 92-94: Exhibiting notes of sweet berries and cherries mingled with notions of rose petals, musk, blood orange and spices, the 2021 Musigny Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru is medium to full-bodied, satiny and perfumed, with excellent concentration, lively acid and sweet, supple tannins. Impressively sensual and effortless, it represents a very strong start for Jean Lupatelli, the estate's new régisseur.

James Suckling 97: A giant amongst the 2021 Grand Cru red Burgundies, but still a sleeping giant. In spite of the stunning concentration on the rather full-bodied palate for the vintage, the stony minerality and bright acidity gives this great drive at the very long finish. A hint of green pepper from the use of whole clusters on the nose. Try from 2026.

Vinous 95: The 2021 Musigny Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru is curiously a little disjointed on the nose compared to its peers, though it coheres with pretty red cherry, wild strawberry, undergrowth and tobacco. The aromatics grow on you. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins that frame the hoisin-tinged red fruit. Slightly powdery in texture towards the finish, which demonstrates assiduous use of whole bunch, there is a lingering residual white pepper note that is very appealing. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

Decanter 94: When I tasted, new winemaker Jean Lupatelli was hard at work deconstructing the massive de Vogüé holdings in Musigny. The domaine is now moving to vinify each section separately in smaller tanks, and the results are bound to impress. We sampled three cuvées separated by vine age; their approximate blend was superb, with an expressive currant and blackberry fruit aroma, abundant notes of violets, and an accent of liquorice and mineral. The older vines brought density, weight, and tannin; the younger ones, lively energy.

Wine Advocate 95-96: The 2023 Musigny Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru, which we tasted from a variety of sub-parcels, is very promising, mingling aromas of dark berries and cherries with notions of orange zest, rose petals, incense and iris. Medium to full-bodied, cool and layered, with a rich core of fruit framed by ultra-refined tannins, it's suave and harmonious, with a long, fragrant finish. This accomplished Musigny only confirms that de Vogüé is performing on a high level today.

Vinous 97-99: I tasted the 2023 Musigny Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru both as components from the seven different cuvées that make the final blend and as an approximation of the final blend itself. This has exquisite delineation on the nose: blackberry, raspberry, crushed stone and touches of undergrowth-very harmonious. The palate is medium- bodied, tightly wound and linear, with a sense of symmetry on the entry. But of all the Musigny tasted from barrel in 2023, this has perhaps the most nascent freshness, tension and complexity on the finish. A sense of completeness. Outstanding.
