Cultivated on a unique geological formation close to the famous ‘colline des Bessards’ in Hermitage, this Saint-Joseph has all the elegance of its appellation combined with the power of its neighbour facing the river.
Eye : Deep red.
Nose : Complex with dominant black fruit and delicate oak aromas. A pure and intense nose.
Palate : A powerful attack. Powerful, round and elegant tannins
Overall : Originating from a geological formation similar to the famous Bessards slopes in Hermitage, this Saint-Joseph has all the finess of the appellation and the strength of its neighbour accross the river.
Wine Advocate 94+: A real success in the context of the vintage, the 2021 Saint-Joseph Vignes de l'Hospice unfurls in the glass with aromas of dark berries, licorice, chocolate, spices and mulberries, mingled with well-integrated hints of oak. Medium- to full-bodied, vibrant and suave, it’s pure, concentrated and penetrating, concluding with a harmonious, mineral finish. In this cuvée, the identity of both the vintage and the terroir truly shines through.
James Suckling 93: If you loved the Northern Rhone wines of 20 or 30 years ago, you will love this. Complex dried herb, smoked bacon and savory aromas. Only medium-bodied, but this has a compact core of healthy tannins and bright acidity. Long, firm finish. Drink or hold.
Vinous 90: The 2021 Saint-Joseph Vignes de l'Hospice is much leaner and more laid-back compared to the surrounding two vintages. Ripe red fruits, cedar, blackberry subtleties and delicate sour cherry are some of the signatures. Allow this medium-bodied 2021 two more years in bottle, and enjoy it while waiting for the 2020 and 2022 to come around.
