The term "Cazetier" originates from "Castel", the parcel situated just above the Château de Gevrey. It is one of the rare "Têtes de Cuvée" to not have been reclassified as a Grand Cru in the 1930's. Along with "Lavaux-Saint-Jacques" and "Clos Saint-Jacques", this climat is considered to be one of the best Premiers Crus in Gevrey. The Domaine has owned half of the appellation since 2013.
Deep ruby red hue with an intense and complex nose characterised by red fruits, toast and subtle roasted notes. The palate is rich and round with a firm structure and direct tannins. This remarkably powerful wine offers a silky mouthfeel and exceptional length.
Burghound 92-95♥: A more discreet if still easily perceptible dollop of wood can be found on the more deeply pitched aromas of poached plum, forest floor and a more subtle hint of the sauvage. The super-sleek, intense and beautifully textured medium weight flavors exude evident minerality on the powerful, youthfully austere and beautifully balanced finale that displays excellent length. One to look for.
Wine Advocate 93-95: The 2022 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Cazetiers is beautiful, bursting with aromas of sweet raspberries and plums mingled with rose petals, blood orange and subtle notions of lavender and potpourri. Full-bodied, ample and fleshy, it's deep and layered, with a multidimensional core of fruit, supple tannins and a saline finish.
James Suckling 95-96: Effusive, almost enveloping nose of ripe red cherries and wild strawberries. Ripe and generous with stacks of fine tannin that are already so beautifully integrated. Very easy to love.
Decanter 93: Since their 2013 purchase of Domaine Dupont-Tisserandot, Faiveley is by far the largest landowner in this top-quality premier cru, with its steep incline and thin soils shielded from the cool of the Combe de Lavaux. In 2022, it delivered a marvellous wine, impressively substantial with the abundant tannic grip and depth to compliment the lovely cherry fruit and fresh floral notes with a hint of citrus on the nose.
Wine Advocate 93-95: The 2023 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Cazetiers is a beauty, bursting with notes of cherries, raspberries, rose petals and incense. Medium to full-bodied, pure and polished, with an ample core of fruit, lively acids and a saline finish, it's especially perfumed and sensual this year.
Vinous 92-94: The 2023 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Cazetiers ler Cru has an understated, tertiary nose with a touch of smoke filtering through the dark berry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with finely chiseled tannins and a keen line of acidity. It's taut and fresh with plenty of mineralité and tension on the finish. This is a very competent and quite delicious Cazetiers.
