In 1879, Puligny added its name to that of its more renowned Grand Cru: Montrachet. The exceptional terroirs of Puligny-Montrachet offer optimum conditions for the Chardonnay grape variety. The "Champ Gain" climat covers 10 hectares of vines situated just below "La Garenne" on the upper parts of the hillside. The name of this parcel signifies "land reclamation on the forest". The domaine has owned this climat since the 2014 vintage.

Attractive nose offering subtle and seductive notes of citrus and exotic fruits combined with delicate toasty notes. The palate is rich and well-balanced with a smooth mouthfeel and taut, mineral structure. A very harmonious wine with exceptional aromatic persistency.

James Suckling 95: What a complex nose of white peaches, apricots and white flowers with a hint of fresh almonds. Considering the ample weight and concentration of this, it remains very straight and precise right through the long and focused finish. Only just beginning to open up. From a warm site with a very stony soil. From organically grown grapes. Matured in 50% new oak and 50% once-used oak. Drink or hold.

Burghound 90-92: A discreet application of wood is present on the ripe aromas of apple compote, petrol and citrus confit along with a floral top note. The racy, delicious and nicely detailed middle weight flavors exude a subtle minerality on the bitter lemon-inflected finale. This could use better depth but I like the balance so it should age well over the medium-term.

Wine Advocate 91-93: The 2023 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Champ Gain has turned out nicely, offering up aromas of pear, freshly baked bread and toasted nuts, followed by a medium to full-bodied, satiny and textural palate, concluding with a long, saline finish.

James Suckling 95: The classical elegance of Puligny-Montrachet is presented in a very fresh and pure manner with citrus zest and chalky energy. Also aromas of blanched almonds and some garden herbs. Stony, long and precise finish with beautifully integrated fine tannins. From organically grown grapes. Fermented and matured in barriques, one-third new. Drink or hold.
