This vineyard sits on soils defined by a limestone gravel substrate, which gives the appellation its unique character. Though shallow, these highly arable soils are a blend of brown and blonde clay-limestone, mixed with gravel. This combination allows for excellent drainage and vine growth. The wines from this plot, planted in 1957, are elegant and precise, offering vibrant freshness, impressive density, and a refined complexity that reflects the essence of the terroir.

Winemaker notes

2022: The nose showcases a voluptuous intensity, with a mineral note beautifully wrapped in an exceptional array of red and black fruits, where the aromas of cherry shine vibrantly. As the wine unfolds, layers of fruit complexity emerge, enhancing its richness. The finish is exquisite, marked by remarkable length and precision that lingers on the palate, leaving a lasting impression of elegance and finesse.

2018

Burghound 92-94: Once again the nose is strikingly floral though with plenty of sauvage On allocation character suffusing the fresh mix of red and dark currant, earth and forest floor. The racy, intense and appealingly delineated larger-scaled flavors possess focused power on the balanced, clean and beautifully long finish. This is a big but harmonious effort that should age gracefully for many years.

2020

Burghound 93-95: A beautifully layered nose freely offers up its aromas of spicy and markedly floral notes as well as purple fruit, pungent earth and hints of the sauvage. Once again there is a beguiling texture to the bigger-bodied and more powerful flavors that brim with dry extract on the raspy, firm and very serious finale. Patience necessary.

2022

Burghound 93-95: A decidedly ripe yet cool and airy array is comprised by notes of exuberantly floral, plum, spice, earth, forest floor and sauvage-inflected aromas. There is equally good volume to the even more concentrated if less obviously sappy large-bodied flavors that culminate in a mildly austere, hugely long and well-balanced finish. This could use better depth but that would appear to be more a matter of patience than anything else. Excellent.
