Stephan Asseo, owner and winemaker at L’Aventure Winery, began making wine in 1982. In that same year, Stephan established Domaine de Courteillac in Bordeaux. He and his family later purchased Chateau Fleur Cardinal and Chateau Robin in the Cotes de Castillion in Bordeaux. Over the next 15 years, Stephan developed into an artisan winemaker of fastidious craftsmanship and gained a “maverick” reputation. His true desire was to be more innovative than AOC law would allow. In 1996, this led him, his wife Beatrice and their 3 children, on a journey to pursue his ideal as a winemaker. In 1997, after one year of research, they fell in love with a unique terroir in the west side Paso Robles. And L’Aventure began in 1998!

2017

Wine Advocate 94: Blended of 74% Syrah, 18% Grenache, 5% Viognier and 3% Graciano, all co-fermented and aged in 50% new oak, the medium to deep ruby-purple colored 2017 Cuvée Chloe gives up blueberry and boysenberry pie, cassis and red berry aromas with notes of cracked pepper, earth, bitter chocolate, mint leaves and blood orange. The medium to full-bodied palate is silky and layered with a firm frame and long, lifted finish.

Vinous 95: Inky ruby. Lively, mineral-accented scents of black raspberry, black currant, vanilla and baking spices, along with a slowly emerging floral component. Pure, elegant and focused on the palate, displaying vibrant lift to the sappy black and blue fruit, violet pastille and spicecake flavors. Finishes extremely long, broad and juicy, with solid mineral thrust, a subtle cracked pepper nuance and smooth tannins.
