2021
Burghound 91-94♥: Hints of exotic tea, particularly jasmine, are complemented by notes of citrus, spice and a mix of white orchard fruit. The gorgeously textured middleweight flavors possess cuts-like-a-knife delineation along with excellent minerality on the linear, bone-dry and youthfully austere finale. The underlying tension is palpable and this strikingly pretty effort should age gracefully over the next 10 to 12 years.
2022
Vinous 93-95: The 2022 Meursault Genevrières 1er Cru has an intense, minerally bouquet with touches of chalk, yellow plum and light blood orange aromas. The palate is well-balanced, one of Bouzereau's more powerful cuvées with impressive persistencce and a sapid aftertaste. The pedigree of the terroir really comes through in this meursault.
Decanter 94: Bouzereau's delicious Genevrières comes from a half-hectare in Genevrières Dessous. The initial attack has abundant pink grapefruit, lemon peel, and spice aromas. The fruit continues on the palate with a marked ripeness, what the French would call sucrosité, but the wine is bone dry, with a lively acidity that highlights the complexity of the finish. The grapes are slowly pressed and fermented in cask, where the wine will age for 16 – 18 months.
2023
Burghound 91-93♥: A naturally exotic nose reveals notes of spiced tea, pear, crushed anise and a floral whiff. There is excellent richness and body to the intense and equally mineral-driven flavors that possess solid depth and persistence on the bone-dry, youthfully austere and beautifully balanced finale. This bitter lemon-inflected effort is very classy though note that it is sufficiently tightly wound to require at least some patience.
Decanter 95: The 2023 Meursault Genevrières from Domaine Michel Bouzereau seems richer than last year, with more melon and mirabelle plum aromas than citrus; the fruit is complemented by notes of anise and a hint of honey. The texture is creamy, and although the acidity is balanced at best, the extract of this enormous wine carries it to a lingering finish. The grapes are from 0.52ha in Genevrières-Dessous, planted in the late 80s. Although this is a dense and powerful style, it should drink well over the next 15 years.
