The second wine of Château Troplong Mondot, a Premier Grand Cru Classé estate in Saint-Émilion, Bordeaux. Primarily 100% Merlot (or near-pure Merlot) grown on limestone, this wine is known for being fruit-forward, silky, and accessible earlier than the Grand Vin, offering black fruit, chalky freshness, and high quality at a lower price point.

James Suckling 91: This may not be the most concentrated wine from the appellation, but it’s a very appealing introduction to modern-style St.-Emilion. Plenty of mixed berries and a hint of vanilla on the medium-full body. Then the chalky character comes through and adds interest. Second wine of Troplong-Mondot. Drink or hold.

Vinous 90: The 2016 Mondot is a pretty second wine from Troplong Mondot. Dark, powerful and plush, the 2016 has a lot to offer. There is plenty of richness to the black cherry, leather, smoke and bittersweet chocolate flavors. At the same time, there is no escaping the hard tannins and at times elevated alcohol. In short, Mondot is what makes the superb quality of Troplong Mondot possible. This is a fine second wine, but not more.

Wine Advocate 91: The 2019 Mondot derives from Merlot growing on newly acquired vineyards on Saint-Émilion's limestone plateau that can't be included in the grand vin until the region's new classification is finalized. Offering up aromas of wild berries, rose petals and coniferous forest floor, it's medium to full-bodied, lively and succulent, with a supple, charming profile and a penetrating finish.
