Located just below Clos de Bèze, almost where it meets Chambertin, this plot unveils the land’s topography in all its splendour. Its rugged slope grants the vines a unique microclimate, likely the warmest among the Grand Crus, with a 5 to 6-day head start over Chambertin. This sun-drenched and early-ripening appellation sits on silts once carried down the valley. This exceptional terroir shapes singular, captivating wines that enchant the senses with a fresh nose and a delicate approach, featuring notes of orange zest, citrus, and red berries.

2021: A captivating, clearly defined, and concentrated bouquet, with red fruits elevated by hints of orange and citrus zest. On the palate, perfect balance, with rich red fruit flavours and a beautiful tension. The long finish is subtly spiced.

Burghound 91-93: A fresh, ripe and quite spicy nose offers up notes of both red and black cherry, pomegranate, raspberry and violet along with a whisper of newly turned earth. There is excellent complexity to the punchy and dense middle weight plus flavors that exude evident minerality on the sappy and refined but powerful finish. I very much like the delivery and in short, this is gorgeous.

Burghound 92-95: This is also seductively perfumed with its strikingly elegant, pure and spicy mix of both red and dark raspberry that also reveals a plethora of floral elements. There is superb punch to the beautifully textured medium weight plus flavors that exude a more subtle minerality on the strikingly long and well-balanced finale. This too could use better depth but that is all but guaranteed to develop in time. Textbook Griotte.

Burghound 93-95: Here there is no reductive funk to the ripe aromas of the essence of dark currant, plum, violet and subtle spice wisps. Like the Combe d'Orveau, there is first-rate depth to the solidly concentrated flavors that possess a wonderfully beguiling texture before terminating a well-balanced, youthfully austere and beautifully long finish where a bead of minerality slowly emerges. This is terrific and a wine that should age accordingly.
