Perrot-Minot Nuits St Georges Ultra 1er Cru La Richemone
Perrot-Minot Nuits St Georges Ultra 1er Cru La Richemone
The Ultra cuvées take the concept of terroir a step further, transcending the unique expression of each “climat”.
Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru "La Richemone" cuvée Ultra comes from the southern part of the vineyard. This old vine thrives in a unique and rare soil, featuring an exceptional combination of gravel for optimal drainage and deep rooting, along with clay-limestone soil. The richness of this terroir, produces a well-balanced wine that exudes enchanting softness and remarkable freshness, unveiling aromas of spices and silky tannins. The "La Richemone" parcel reveals a wine that is round in character, with depth and outstanding complexity.
Winemaker notes
2021: A rich and complex bouquet of red and black fruits, iris, and black pepper. On the palate, a harmonious concentration unfolds, featuring fine, delicate tannins that provide remarkable balance.
2017
Burghound 91-94: Here the densely fruited nose is a bit less floral but even spicier with its cool array of red currant, cherry, spice and earth-scented aromas. There is a bit more concentration and power to the attractively textured medium weight plus flavors thanks to the abundant amount of sappy dry extract that also serves to buffer the superbly long and highly complex finale. While these two wines are qualitatively similar, there is just a bit more depth of material that may ultimately make for a more complete wine.
2018
Burghound 91-94: Here too the animated nose is prominently spicy with its array of poached plum, violet, rose petal and sandalwood aromas. There is more volume and power if a bit less refinement to the punchy and well-detailed flavors that are blessed with an abundance of dry extract that imparts a sappy mouthfeel on the powerful, highly complex and manifestly persistent finish.
Vinous 93-95: The 2018 Nuit-Saint-Georges La Richemone Vieilles Vignes "Cuvée Ultra" has a complex bouquet that combines red and black fruit, brown spices, sea cave and light oyster shell aromas, all very well delineated. The palate is defined by svelte and supple tannins, finely pitched acidity and a very elegant and disarmingly pure and persistent finish. This is an outstanding wine from Perrot-Minot, with huge potential.
Decanter 94: Christophe Perrot-Minot's venerable, south-facing parcel of La Richemone is located just below Les Damodes and was planted in 1902. Fermented with 60% whole bunches and aged in 20% new wood, the resulting has some subtle, noble reduction, sweet red cherry fruit and a hint of rhubarb-like acidity. Taut and tangy with good underlying concentration.
2020
Burghound 93-95♥: A cool, restrained and wonderfully elegant and airy nose presents wafting aromas of red currant, plum, dark currant, spice and essence of violet. The super-sleek and seductively textured middle weight flavors brim with both minerality and sappy dry extract that buffers the dense but ultra-fine grain tannins supporting the equally persistent and youthfully austere finish. In a word, marvelous.
2021
Burghound 90-93: This is both spicier and riper with a black berry fruit liqueur character to the violet and rose petal scents. As is usually the case, the medium weight flavors are bigger, richer and more powerful with first-rate concentration to the delicious if markedly firm finish that delivers fine overall depth and length.
Vinous 92-94: The 2021 Nuit-Saint-Georges La Richemone Vieilles Vignes Cuvée Ultra is aged in barrel and then Wineglobe post-malo. This has quite a cohesive and more complex bouquet compared to the preceding Chambolles, a mélange of red and black fruit, iris and black pepper. The palate is medium bodied with fine tannins, quite focused and beautifully balanced, very pure with a sorbet-fresh finish. This is absolutely delightful.
