The Kitterle was mentioned for the first tile in 1699. In 1782 twelve “schatz” of vineyard were recorded as the exclusive property of the Jesuits from Ensisheim. The wine from this slope is marketed in its own name since 1830.
The colour is lemon yellow with light green reflections, of good intensity. The disk is bright, limpid and transparent. The wine shows youth. The nose is open, pleasant and intense. We perceive a dominant of candied, fruity flavours, white fruit, golden apple, praline, sweet almond, nougat. Airing reveals yellow fruits, quince, Mirabelle plum as well as subtle floral notes, fine vegetal, valerian, star anise and liquorice. The nose reflects a beautiful maturity of the grape and seems imbued with the character of the vintage. It gives the wine a great complexity.
Decanter 94: Very full and flowing medium-sweet style, with balanced acidity. Honeyed quince, pear and shortcrust pastry. An incredibly long, intense and tangy finish. Great purity, concentration and impact. Give me foie gras!
Wine Enthusiast 94: There is something pleasantly bitter on the nose: Burnt sugar or bitter almond. The palate answers this with fluid, rippling sweetness expressed in ripe, juicy, refreshing pear fruit. The bitter notes remain and create an appetizing, tangy edge to this concentrated wine that's streamlined by balancing freshness despite the residual sugar. A lovely balancing act with a bracingly clean, medium dry finish and echoes of citrus zest. Drink 2017–2035.
