Burghound 89-92: This is also attractively spicy with fruit that derives more from the red side of the spectrum and in particular cherry and currant. I very much like the mouthfeel of the caressingly, even seductively, textured middleweight flavors that contrasts somewhat with the dusty, firm and lightly austere finale. This well-balanced effort should be approachable young if desired.
Vinous 88-90: The 2021 Vosne-Romanée Les Chaumes ler Cru seems a little oaky on the nose, which is occluding the terroir compared to others tasted on my travels. The palate is medium-bodied with strict tannins, black rather than red fruit with a slightly toasty finish. This feels a bit short overall.
Burghound 89-92: A very Vosne-like nose is comprised by exuberantly spicy notes of plum, various dark berries and a suggestion of exotic tea. The delicious and vibrant middle weight flavors are not particularly dense but they are at once succulent and seductive while delivering fine length on the better-balanced finale where a hint of bitter pit fruit character slowly emerges.
Vinous 90-92: The 2023 Vosne-Romanée Les Chaumes ler Cru has a wonderful bouquet with expressive brambly red fruit, crushed stone and undergrowth scents that convey a sense of transparency. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins. The fruit is a little blacker and earthier than the aromatics, but it feels long on the finish. It has good potential, but it needs a prudent élevage.
