Forged from the coexistence of four elements: the terroir between the Garonne and Ciron rivers, characterized by its gravelly-sandy soil; a unique microclimate; the presence of the botrytis cinerea fungus (“noble rot”); and the predominant grape variety, Sémillon. Recognized as a Sauternes Premier Grand Cru Classé in the 1855 classification.

The nose offers a bowl of orchard fruit with some exotic floral notes. On the palate, there are notes of apricot, and a very elegant, supple, full-bodied fruit texture. The finish is light, with notes of grapefruit. Overall, a superb balance between power and freshness.

Wine Advocate 90: Bottled two months ago, the 2012 Chateau Lafaurie-Peyraguey has a slightly earthier bouquet compared to the 2011 with touches of lemon peel, honeysuckle and orange zest. The palate is well balanced with a noticeably spicy entry. Moderate weight in the mouth, quite vibrant with good botrytis if not the depth and elegance of the previous vintage. This will probably be earlier drinking than the 2011, but it is finely crafted.

James Suckling 90: Elegant and harmonious with sliced apple, honey and pear character. Medium body, light sweetness and a fresh finish. Drink or hold.

Vinous 89: The 2012 Lafaurie-Peyraguey is a success given the challenges of the growing season. It has a lighter bouquet than the previous two vintages, offering lemon curd, honeysuckle and subtle damp earth aromas. The palate is balanced though not deep, displaying modest weight and a respectable botrytis element. It feels a touch monochromatic compared to the superior 2011, but it is a well-made, early-drinking Sauternes. Tasted from an ex- château bottle sent to my home.

Falstaff 89: The sweet and dessert wine Château Lafaurie-Peyraguey, vintage 2012 from the winery Château Lafaurie-Peyraguey has been rated in 2015 with 89 Falstaff points. It is a wine made from the grape varieties Muscadelle, Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon from the region Sauternes in France.
