Los Vascos Cromas Cabernet Franc Gran Reserva
Los Vascos Cromas Cabernet Franc Gran Reserva
The grapes are grown on the sunny slopes of the foothills of the Santa Lucia vineyard, where the granite soils are covered with a layer of yellow-red clay that reveals the uncompromising personality of this delicate grape.
The wines in Los Vascos' Cromas range are aged for 12 months in barrels. The shallow granite soils and the good sun exposure of the slopes gave rise to well-balanced vines that today produce precise and elegant wines.
Winemaker notes
2020: Beautiful, elegant, and crystalline ruby red color. Red fruit-scented nose of ripe raspberries and fresh strawberries with the signature herbal and floral aromas of this variety. Rounding up this complexity are notes of orange peel and graphite, both of them, elegant and subtle contributions from the barrel. On the palate, this interesting medium-bodied wine offers a smooth attack, marked by an intense and refreshing acidity. Its firm yet pleasant tannins open for a persistent finish.
2020
James Suckling 92: A pretty fresh cabernet franc from the warm 2020 vintage. Plenty of red fruit, strawberries and spices on the nose followed by a linear center palate, but it is still a bit closed with a tight clutch of tannins in the finish. A bit chewy, but it is still nicely drinkable. Drink in 2024.
Wine Enthusiast 90: Subtle grass, berry, bell pepper and cumin aromas form the nose of this well-structured red. This wine is fresh for a dry and hot vintage. It has a smooth and spicy palate, with good acidity backing fruit flavors of plum and blackberry. Notes of tobacco linger in the finish.
2021
Wine Enthusiast 90: A nose of earthy aromas introduces a palate of concentrated black fruit flavors. A smart use of oak barrels resulted in this wine showcasing ripe plum and herbal notes backed by enough acidity and supporting tannins to make it enjoyable through the finish.
