Morlet's unique estate lies on the western foothills just north of the town of St. Helena. Shallow loamy topsoil, rocky alluvial subsoil and full sun exposure create ideal conditions for the Cabernet Sauvignon vines. The family restored the 1880 stone winery, which is illustrated on the label. Handcrafted using classical winemaking techniques and with the uncompromising and ongoing pursuit of quality, this wine represents the precious essence of a very special place, which the family calls home.

Winemaker notes

Dark and deep with a hue of deep bright ruby red. Intense and complex bouquet of red cherry and blackberry intermixed with notes of minerals (graphite, wet river rocks), licorice, fresh blond tobacco and a hint of fresh blackcurrant. Full bodied, the palate is reminiscent of the nose, with a richly tannic yet round frame and with an outstanding finesse. The tannins from both bench and foothill locations create a harmonious ensemble, leading to a long, seamless and elegant finish. Built to age for decades, this collectible wine will open up after a few years of cellaring and is particularly representative of this special side of St. Helena. Morlet Estate features the interaction of the loamy, well drained and rocky volcanic soil, the typical sunny mountain climate and the low-interventionistic Morlet winemaking approach.

2013

Wine Advocate 97+: From Luc Morlet's own estate just north of St. Helena, the 2013 Morlet Estate comes across like a first-growth Pauillac. Again 100% Cabernet Sauvignon with creamy blackcurrants and blackberry fruit, some licorice, graphite, and background oak, the wine displays excellent minerality, superb fruit intensity, and a multi-dimensional mouthfeel. It should drink well for at least 25-30 years.

Vinous 96: Dark cherry, raspberry jam, wild flowers, chocolate, mint and sweet spices are front and center in the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Morlet Estate. Racy, powerful and voluptuous, the 2013 captures the personality that is typical of so many wines from this northern sector of St. Helena. The flavors profile is decidedly red-fruit leaning, but it is the interplay of all the elements that elevates the Estate.
