Winemaker notes

Deep red with hints of purple color. On the nose ripe notes of cassis, blackberries and raspberry combined with tobacco and leather. Nicely concentrated with lush, rounded tannins and elegant notes as black cherries and licorice on the palate. Long and rich finish where the complexity of the wine shines through. Nectar Dei 2014 has a very good ageing potential.

Wine Advocate 92: Although the label on my sample is not final, this wine appears to have become part of the Maremma Toscana DOC. The 2017 Maremma Toscana Nectar Dei is a powerful blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (60%), Petit Verdot (25%) and Merlot (15%). The wine is thick and densely concentrated, showing aromas of inky black fruit and a passing lactic note that is commonly found in this hot vintage. The core of the bouquet is firmly etched with dried blackberry, moist earth, sweet tobacco, hot tar and road paving. The wine ends with soft tannins and an evident note of tangy sweetness. It's perfect for braised meats. Some 8,000 bottles were made.

James Suckling 92: An attractive, juicy red blend of cabernet sauvignon, merlot, petit verdot and syrah that shows red-fruit, spice and chocolate character. Medium-bodied with soft tannins and a flavorful finish. Drink now.

Wine Advocate 93: This is a certified organic wine that is packaged in a heavy glass bottle. A blend of 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Petit Verdot, 20% Merlot and 10% Syrah, the 2019 Maremma Toscana Nectar Dei reveals an inky dark appearance with rich tones of blackberry, chewy black plum, spice and cured leather. The wine excels in terms of saturation and richness, although the mouthfeel is relatively contained and not too heavy. This is a production of 7,000 bottles.

James Suckling 93: Interesting aromas of blackcurrants, dried sea weed and blackberries with some black-walnut undertones. Full-bodied, tight and chewy with a fresh finish. Give it two or three years to soften. From organically grown grapes. Try after 2024.
