Winemaker notes
Deep red with hints of purple color. On the nose ripe notes of cassis, blackberries and raspberry combined with tobacco and leather. Nicely concentrated with lush, rounded tannins and elegant notes as black cherries and licorice on the palate. Long and rich finish where the complexity of the wine shines through. Nectar Dei 2014 has a very good ageing potential.
2016
WA 93: I published my review of the 2017 vintage of this "Nectar of the Gods" a little while back and am now reaching back to 2016 to keep the databased updated. The Nittardi 2016 Maremma Toscana Nectar Dei is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Syrah with 5,646 bottles produced. This is a thickly extracted and rich red wine with black fruit, plum, spice, leather and sweet spice or toast. It is a medium to full-bodied red that can stand up to roast pork or grilled steak.
2014
WA 89: The 2014 Nectar Dei is 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Petit Verdot, 20% Merlot and 10% Syrah. This is a dark and impenetrable wine with a thick and inky-black appearance. The bouquet peels back to reveal dark fruit, dried cherry, polished river stone and crushed granite. The nose is very attractive, but the mouthfeel does not deliver the power nor the richness that you should expect. The 2014 vintage is known for thinner and shorter wines, and this is certainly the case here.
JS 93: A powerful red with strawberry, cherry and hints of cedar on the nose and palate. Full body, layered and rich. Needs a couple of years to soften. Drink in 2019.
