After 20 years of experience cultivating Sauvignon Blanc in higher elevations with fresher microclimate, the Pio Family decided to finally vinify this grape variety in purity though in very limited quantity. From north facing slopes in the historical vineyards at “Bricco di Treiso” and also at “Bossania” in Trezzo Tinella, and very soon in the village of Cissone in Alta Langa.

Alcoholic fermentation starts in stainless steel tanks. Ageing takes place partially in French oak barriques – 50% new oak – and partially in stainless steel. Long rest in bottle before release.

A Sauvignon Blanc which faithfully embodies the Langhe terroir. Moderate acidity and nice minerality, complex aromas well-balanced with great structure and persistence, very approachable showing at the same time very long ageing potential. Produced every year in very small quantity.

Wine Advocate 87: Here is a new submission from Pio Cesare, a winery with a long tradition of making red wines and the ambition to add more whites to the portfolio. This makes perfect sense given the great variability of northern Italian foods. An estate as important as this would want to have something to pair with fish, lighter salads and the foods many of us choose today. The 2022 Langhe Sauvignon Blanc opens to an almost transparent appearance with aromas of lemon drop, green tomato leaf, white stone and quince.

James Suckling 93: A very fresh and bright white with peaches, honeysuckle, and hints of nougat. Medium body. Bright acidity and a clean finish. Crisp. From Il Bricco vineyard in Barbaresco and Bossania vineyard, just outside the region. 10% fermented and aged in barrels. Energetic. Drink now.

Wine Enthusiast 94: A graceful expression of Chardonnay from Piedmont showing both finesse and structure. The bouquet emerges with balletic precision: delicate white flowers, ripe golden apple, vanilla bean notes, all with remarkable restraint. The palate balances creamy texture against vibrant acidity. Like a skilled dancer, it maintains perfect poise between richness and elegance, building complexity with each sip. Drink Now - 2038.

Falstaff 91: Transparent straw yellow with silver highlights. Aromatic nose, gooseberry, papaya and elderflower, somewhat reminiscent of herbal candy. The palate is juicy and tangy, discreetly creamy with a vibrant acidity, animating and mouthwatering finish.
