Winemaker notes

2023: Bullnose Syrah ’23 is a striking crimson with a vivid purple hue at its rim. Opening with classic florals, featuring notes of spice, plum, cinnamon, violets, raspberry, and cherry. These aromas seamlessly transition to the palate, where fine, cashmere-like tannins create a harmonious texture. The interplay of complex cherry and dark plum flavours is warm, caressing, and instantly appealing. Bullnose Syrah ’23 is finely balanced and satisfying throughout - simply beautiful.

2023

Wine Advocate 94: The 2023 Bullnose Syrah leads with crushed rocks and rose petals, pomegranate pearls, raspberry and a shading of tapenade. In the mouth, the wine is silky and medium-bodied, more leafy than in previous vintages but leaning toward dried herbs rather than anything indicating "greenness." A casing of dark chocolate or powdered cocoa is like a gossamer sheath over the fruit and is very attractive. As ever, this is an impressive wine from this Cabernet-focused house in Hawke's Bay. As usual, the tannins are chalky and supple through the middle palate, and they serve to define the finish. 13% alcohol, sealed under Diam.

Vinous 91: Sourced from five vineyards, predominantly the Bridge Pa Triangle, the 2023 Bullnose is a very gently handled Syrah, as if taking its cue from Pinot Noir. It's delicate with a lovely bit of flesh on the mid-palate, making for a welcoming beginning. The 2023 is produced mainly from free-run juice after 30 days of maceration. It is fragrant, led by black cherry, plum and raspberry fruit, while French oak adds an attractive layer of spice.
